A continued rally in the equity markets is really dependent on continued leadership in Technology, as well as a recovery in Small-Caps.
The following Weekly comparison chart of the Dow 30, S&P 500, Nasdaq 100 and Russell 2000 Indices shows that, from the 2009 lows, Technology has led the overall rally, for the most part, and, particularly, since early this year when the spread has widened considerably between the NDX and the others.
The following 60-day 60-minute comparison chart of these 4 Indices shows the NDX approaching this year’s high, while the RUT has the furthest to go to reach that point. I’d watch for any build in volumes in the NDX and the RUT on, either a rally, or any decline from this point…to confirm a commitment in sentiment, one way or the other.

Semiconductor Sector’s Excitement Continues
Dialing back to January of 2013, I am looking for clues about the coming phase for the economy, mostly as an input into whether or not I can think about turning bullish on gold again (here we remind you again of gold’s best investment case, which is counter not pro cyclical).
The answer, from a contact in the Semiconductor sector (AMAT, LRCX, MKSI, etc.) food chain was that the Semi equipment companies, which we called “canaries on the [economic] coal mine”, were ramping up and thus NFTRH’s view became bullish for the economy, at least short-term. (more…)
Biotech Swinging
Last week I featured metals and miners, and those trades worked out well. I exited my NUGT, and rolled up my GLD and SLW calls. Miners look set to take a breather here.
I also have been interested and invested in some Biotech plays, mostly situational, but that caused me to run some scans in this space. I am glad I did.
