People seem to think that Palo Alto is a “rich” town, just because the likes of Mark Zuckerberg, Marissa Mayer, and Larry Page live here. Not so. It’s full of slobs like me. The really rich town is Atherton, a few miles from here, populated by an increasingly large proportion of Indian billionaires.
As you might guess, Atherton law enforcement doesn’t struggle with the same crimes that, say, Baltimore or Detroit police do. Here’s a recent sampling: (more…)
As a child of the 80s, I have a great fondness for the music of that era (most particularly around 1982-1987). There was one song, however, I detested, and it was the Mick Jagger/David Bowie “Dancing in the Street”. However, a YouTuber, God bless him, made it actually enjoyable by removing the music. Check out the banality; it’s hilarious…….
In these incredibly racially-sensitive times, I was reflecting upon how the commercials I saw on television when I was a kid would never see the light of day in more modern times. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the racist-against-black commercials were pretty much gone (Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben’s notwithstanding) but Asians were still boxed into some fairly ridiculous forms.
