Catch Up or Catch Down?

By -

It should come as a surprise to no one that I’m getting my ass kicked today, as the market once again roars to records highs, based on the fact that Trump didn’t sound insane last night. Oddly, after his speech, the ES and NQ had pretty much shrugged their shoulders at the whole thing. I guess the lack-of-insanity had to sink in for hours, and now equities around the world are at levels never before seen in human history.

Most vexing to me is what energy is doing, because oil is weak (which is what I want to see, since I have a lot of energy shorts) but energy stocks are VERY strong. Looking at the divergence below, the monster question is – – will oil “catch down” to energy stocks (which have been unusually weak until today), or will energy stocks continue to “catch up” with oil?

One of These Days

Super-quick pre-dog-walk post to offer the hope that one of these days crude will actually break this godawful range we’ve been in since December freaking’ First of 20 freakin’ 16. I’m still loaded to the gills with energy shorts, and I think I might get back into ERY today, based partly on the fact that I feel so bad about my DUST debacle. As always, inventory reports roll out tonight and tomorrow morning, so maybe 52.25 will actually get cracked in our lifetimes. Here’s what happening at the moment:

Orange is the new Black

It looks like another day of record highs across the board for equities. I’ve become inured to it by now. I’m particularly focused on what oil is doing, since apparently the OPEC production cuts are enjoying nearly full compliance, which is compelling oil to make yet another trust at the top of its range. It simply cannot seem to escape this very tight range, and OPEC has at a minimum done a great job creating a rock-solid floor for oil.
