I’m old-fashioned. I was born that way. As a child, I was an Eagle Scout, sang in the church choir, and helped the old ladies of the neighborhood. In the world of Goofus & Gallant, I tried to be the latter. So I’m always interested when civic virtues are bandied about in public discourse.

So a funny thing happened on the way to Wall Street last week. A rabid rabble of Robinhood retail rats on Reddit took advantage of a perceived market inefficiency in Gamestop (GME) and decided it would be a fun idea to drive up the stock and in the process stick it to the ‘man’ as an extra bonus. As you would expect it didn’t take long until all hell broke loose, for the high priests of finance don’t enjoy seeing their sacred privileges challenged. So they did what any self respecting incumbent would do: They decided to make a phone call…

So, let’s do a little Contrarianism 101, shall we: if you invested $53,000 into something super-high-risk………..and it goes to $50 million…………and then, in the span of a week, you go from a relative unknown to a person who is literally on the front page of the New York Times business section and whom Saturday Night Live is featuring in parodies………….you should have already gotten out.

Anyway, /deepfuckingvalue is going to be just fine, I’m sure, but I seriously doubt the cultish hoard aping his behavior (about a year too late) is going to make out quite the same………..
