Today is going well so far. I lightened way, way up on my shorts earlier today, and I've got two large long positions – GLD and GDX – which I intend to play for this bounce.

Shorting Education Stocks Based on Gap-Fill
For-Profit Education Still Hammered
Slowly, but not so surely, the market seems to be continue to "fracture." Why do I believe this? Simply because my method of picking large quantities of individual stocks (as opposed to two or three very large ETF positions) seems to be starting to go my way.
At least one stock a day seems to be "blowing up" right now. Today's is DeVry (DV), shown below. Indeed, the entire for-profit sector seems to be pretty tradeable these days (I am also short WPO which, in spite of being the Washington Post, is by and large a for-profit education stock). DV and WPO are down about 15% and 8%, respectively, this morning. It affirms for me the usefulness of "gap fill" trades, since DV clawed its way quite nicely back to a gap fill as recently as last Thursday.
Chipotle and Quiet Slope Ahead
Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone had a pleasant Christmas (or Hannukuh or Kwanza or whatever else you decided to do with your holiday). It is going to be an unusually quiet week here on Slope since (a) it's pretty much the holiday season (b) this week is about as close to a vacation as I get. So posts won't be very frequent, and comment threads are bound to get long.
One item doing well for me this morning is perenial puzzlement Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG), home of the perfectly-adequate-but-I-have-no-idea-what-the-big-deal-is burrito joint. This is a very clean head and shoulders pattern with a target that would match nicely with its gap.
