Slope of Hope Blog Posts

Slope initially began as a blog, so this is where most of the website’s content resides. Here we have tens of thousands of posts dating back over a decade. On a Dime

My goodness, the sentiment around these parts changes in a big hurry! Yesterday the bulls became mimes (although they were not dressed as one; that’s strictly my department). Today they’re crowing, smirking, and pointing.

Looking at the trend of the IWM, I really don’t see what all the high-fives are about. People want to keep buying the dips? Be my guest. I’m shorting into strength. It is completely understandable why people would think buying every dip makes sense; they’ve been deliberately conditioned to do so. Sort of like lab rats.

A New Payment Method

By -

Since I introduced Slope+ about a month ago, the only complaint – – if you can call it that – – I’ve received is that it requires Paypal for payment. Some people really dislike Paypal, and although they wanted to subscribe, they wouldn’t do so until I offered a different way to pay.

I am delighted to let you know that our “not Paypal” payment method is in place and ready to use.

Now when you go to the subscription page (which is https://dev.slopeofhope.com/socialtrade/me/profile?tab=plus) you’ll see this new choice:

0501-notpaypal

This way, you don’t need a Paypal account. All you need is a credit card, and voila, you’re done.

If you’d like a refresher as to what Slope+ is all about, the page is http://dev.slopeofhope.com/page/slope-plus.html

As an additional incentive to sign up, I’ve created a coupon code – notpaypal – which you can enter to get $19.95 off either the monthly subscription (which is like getting a month free) or the annual subscription (which is like getting three months free, since the annual is already discounted).

(As an extra-extra incentive, there’s no way I’m dumb enough to keep charging this cheap price forever; I’m already planning to crank up the price in a couple of months; so you can lock in the Tim-is-dumb price now, if you want).

I hope to see you on Slope+

The Face Of A Sequester Victim

By -

(Note: Iggy asked me to post this for him, so in spite of the by-line, it really is by Iguanadon………)

Hello Slopers,

That’s right, it’s Iggy, with a header post. A first! And it’s not about bacon, dogs or kitchen remodeling. It’s about the world we live in, or more so, the country we live in.

We’ve all heard about the sequester and personally I was all for it. The government wastes hundreds of billions of dollars a year and it’s time to make cuts. The 85 billion sequester is a good start. (more…)

Gold Gets Hammered Again

Fellow Slopers,

In our post on Saturday, we looked at how a hedge on GLD from last quarter reacted as the gold ETF tanked on Friday. This post includes an updated look at that hedge as of intraday Monday, as well as a couple of current ways GLD investors could hedge on Monday. Incidentally, for those who missed Saturday’s post, I recommend reading the comments there by Sloper extraordinaire Market Sniper and Tim Knight. (more…)

A Match Made in Heaven

As most of you know, last year I introduced SocialTrade, a social web site for traders who wanted to share charts and articles with one another. The idea was simple: if any of you saw a chart or article they wanted to “stack” into the library of SocialTrade, they could do so with a couple of mouse clicks, and all the users of SocialTrade could view, comment upon, and restack those items to various categories of their own choosing.
