New Highs on SPX

By -

SPX made a new high yesterday at 1902.17 after breaking up from the range trading of the last few months. Kudos to my EW friends Pug and Alphahorn who both called this bullish resolution correctly, with Alphahorn saying last week that both of his bull and bear counts required new highs on SPX. That looked somewhat doubtful at the time but well, here we are.

On the SPX daily chart there is nothing to suggest that the new high yesterday might be a significant reversal level, and I’m looking for more upside after the current small retracement completes. SPX tested the upper bollinger band at the high yesterday and we could start a bollinger band ride upwards with SPX trading around the upper band. There is some significant resistance however at the weekly upper band, currently at 1907. SPX daily chart: (more…)

SandRidge Energy (SD) on the Move

By -

SandRidge Energy (SD) appears poised for upside acceleration after spending the past 2 weeks consolidating its March-April up-leg. All of the action off the April 23 rally peak at 7.10 has the right look of a mature bull flag-type of consolidation pattern that should resolve itself to the upside in a thrust to the 7.50 level in the coming days. (Click on the chart in case you actually want to see the damned thing).

Slow Starter

Yesterday was more tedious than I expected , though the bulls made some significant targets, notably the 50 hour moving averages on both SPX, now at 1873 and ES, now at 1868, so in effect at the same SPX level. The action yesterday looked somewhat bearish in the afternoon, and a new falling megaphone has been established, which I posted on twitter last night. If we see weakness this morning, which seems likely, then I will be looking for possible support at 1873 SPX. SPX 60min chart:
