Hope for Energy Bears

By -

The big OPEC meeting is next Wednesday in Vienna, and from what I’ve read, crude is going to move massively either up or down, depending on the outcome. That sounds like a ridiculous thing to write, I realize, but the point is that this is a BIG “binary event” in the world of energy.

Last year, exactly at this time, the world of crude oil started falling to pieces, and it fell steadily for ten weeks. None of us can know what next week holds, of course, but at the moment, faith in a deal by which the cartel abides doesn’t exactly seem strong. I’m sticking with my many energy shorts.

Dead Nuts On

Crude oil is acting picture-perfect. As I specifically mentioned Monday, I believed it might rally to the underbelly of its trendline, and this morning, with yet another goofy rumor from Russia, crude oil soared……….PERFECTLY touching its trendline, right to the pixel. Huzzah!

So I am VERY enthusiastic about shorting energy stocks at present levels (and, as a bonus, Gartman turned bullish on oil yesterday, God bless him).

Rude, Crude, and Totally Acceptable

I am pleasantly surprised to see a normal – – boring, even – – number come out of the BLS. What a non-event, huh? I was worried they’d claim 3 million jobs were added and the unemployment rate was negative 2%. So at least we have that out of the way (although the news that the US government is warning of Al Qaeda attacks here on US soil next week is, umm, troubling).

Crude oil, the one market I was too stupid to realize Yellen has no vested interest in manipulating, continues to absolutely plunge, to the delight of my energy shorts. Keep it comin’.
