Grandad Revisited

A few days ago, I did a post called Old Grandad which related the tale of a young man who took his entire $1.2 million inheritance, shoved it into the “sure thing” of March 21 $40 calls on DJT, and promptly lost $500,000.

In the bizarre video he did, which was sort of a financial sadomasochism kink-fest, he was crying that the options had crumbled in value to about $5.05. People BEGGED him to take his losses and be done with it, but he steadfastly refused.

Well, I just looked, and that $5.05 would look awfully good right now. The current bid on the option is $1.45, less than a third of its value during the freak-out video. In other words, his $500,000 loss has blossomed to over $1,000,000. Notice how much bigger the open interest is than the other strikes? Yeah, that’s him.

Why I Ditched NFLX

As a follow-up to my prior post, I wanted to talk about why I did the following on Tuesday morning:

You see, I bought NFLX Puts last Friday based on what I perceived as a topping pattern. I saw in SlopeCharts that earnings were going to be happening Tuesday afternoon, and although that sort of thing doesn’t typically scare me out of position, I took another look at the chart and had one of those what-were-you-thinking moments. Dog Gone

I came this close to getting a pup during the weekend at the San Francisco SPCA. This two-month-old cutie looked exactly like a baby Coda and, eerily, had the same name as my mom. For once, I made the mature decision to hold off until a more appropriate time, which is probably not until June. Still, she was a cutie, but I’m certain a new dog will come into our lives in the same mysterious way that all the others have, and at the right time. I’ll know when it’s time to say yes.
